Today, the patients have highly esthetic demand to the tooth restoration. For the purpose, the all-ceramic materials are especially suitable. One of these, and probably the most preferred one is IPS Empress. IPS Empress system is for all-ceramic crowns, that gives you exceptional esthetics plus strength. This unique system, created at the University of Zurich by A. Wohlwend, which further developed the idea of moulding heated ceramic, is now been used successfully more than 10 years. Its unique leucite-reinforced glass ceramic material is pressure injected. The optimal stages of translucency and the slight shade gives to this leucite glass ceramic material a chameleon effect. This guarantees that the ceramic constructions shall fit to the natural dentition and shall be practically indistinguishable. The utilization of bonded ceramic restorative materials is intended to reestablish function, shape, contour, color, natural light transmission and strength of natural dentition. The latest addition to the IPS Empress® family, new IPS Eris low-fusing fluorapatite glass-ceramic combines the life-like translucency, brightness and light-scattering capabilities. Apatite crystals (a component of the natural tooth), together with the individual characteristics, enhance the optical qualities of restored parts. The result is beautifully and aesthetic restoration combined with the high fracture resistance and flexural strength, which is necessary for all-ceramic bridges (2nd premolar as most distal abutment) as well as single anterior and posterior crowns. By presenting the IPS Eris system, Ivoclar Vivadent suddenly increased the range of all-ceramic restorations in the field of three unit bridges. IPS Impress system fabricates all-crowns, inlays and veneers, anterior and posterior single crowns (where the superior esthetics is of key importance), as well as posterior single crowns (only at unstressed teeth), as well as the three unit bridges. When should we use Empress: When the esthetics and strength are basic purpose for anterior and posterior crowns.
